Bathtub Resurfacing

Bathtub resurfacing refers to the process of cleaning and applying a new finish to bathtubs. The bathtub or tile is cleaned, repaired and then a combination of chemicals (epoxies, acrylics, or urethanes), are used to put a new finish on the bathtub or tile. The new finish is just as hard and durable as the original surface and if properly cared for should last for 15 to 20 years. In Charlotte, some bathtub resurfacing companies will use flashy names like "synthetic porcelain". Do not be fooled. Porcelain is baked onto bathtubs and there is no way to reapply it to a bathtub. For those in the Charlotte area, bathtub resurfacing is available in a variety of colors and textures. Standard colors include white and almond, however, any color can be computer matched... all we need is a sample. A growing trend in tile and shower resurfacing is the use of textured faux stone patterns. Surface Magic's Multi-Fleck coatings are sprayed with an HVLP air gun then allowed to cure before having clear applied to create a natural, deep, stone look.

How It Works

Surface Magics bathtub resurfacing process involves first fixing any damage there is on a bathtub or tile surround. After all the damage has been repaired, the surface is cleaned and surrounding surfaces are tapped off in order to prevent over spray. We will vent fumes and dust out of the nearest window in order to minimize the smell inside the bathroom. Next a wipe on primer is applied and allowed to dry. The primer is what bonds tight to the original surface and allows us to offer an industry leading 5 year warranty. After the primer has been added several coats of acrylic urethane topcoat are applied to give the surface a shiny new appearance. Be wary of a price that sounds too good to be true. The most expensive material in resurfacing a bathtub or tile is the primer. Some companies may skip this step in order to offer a better price. If this is the case the topcoat will peel off in under a years time. If your lucky the company will still be in business.
